Robert and Gwynne Edmund, of Edmund Optics, have been connected with Moorestown Friends for many years. They were first involved as parents of three alumnae, Nicole ’86 (pictured), Genvieve ’89 and Marisa ’94. Today, they are the grandparents of three more girls at MFS – Nicole Edmund and husband Gene Sloan’s Middle School daughters, Mattie, Brady and Morgan. Nicole is an art teacher at MFS, and Gene is a travel reporter for USA TODAY.

“We chose MFS because it taught our children the importance of being a contributing member in one’s community. From ensemble, to sports, to yearbook committee, our children were encouraged to develop both their academic and career skills from the beginning of their journey with MFS. Likewise, the academic environment and motivating teaching staff demanded excellence of our young students. With an aggressive curriculum and 100% college enrollment rate, there was little room for mediocrity.

“As we look back on the experience, our children were well prepared for college, they learned the value of diversity and they have never questioned the value of hard work. All parents try to teach their children the skills to succeed, MFS challenged them to become independent thinkers capable of applying these skills to real-world situations.

“We are grateful to MFS for providing our children with such a wonderful learning environment. Small class sizes combined with outstanding extra-curricular activities was an ideal mix for our children whose interests ranged from art to lacrosse to chairing the flute section of Davie Weiner’s famous ensemble!”
