Academics - Middle School Meet the Director Steven Shaffer
Before coming to MFS, Mr. Shaffer spent nine years at Friends' Central School, where he taught middle and upper school English, and also served as Director of College Guidance and as an Upper School grade dean. At Friends' Central, he also coached varsity baseball and varsity basketball, and was Head Teacher/Coach of the school's summer Reading, Math and Basketball Clinic for grades five through nine. From 1979 to 1984, Mr. Shaffer worked at Columbus Academy in Ohio. He taught middle and upper school English, coached basketball and baseball, and served as advisor to the Upper School Student Court. Mr. Shaffer has an M.Ed. in English from the University of Virginia and an A.B. in English from Lafayette College.

Steven Shaffer was appointed MFS Middle School Director in 1993. He also teaches sixth grade English, and coaches the Middle School girls basketball team.
